When I saw these pillows I thought "What a great way to dress up a purple and black zebra comforter"! Or for that matter, I can imagine a teen girl giving the black and white damask comforter set (that her mom really loved a whole lot more than she ever did) a cool look.

Mixing and matching patterns and colors are what take a bed in a bag set and transform it into something delightful and unique. However, one bad choice in an accent pillow is all it takes to completely tank your decor no matter how stunning the rest of your bedroom decorating ideas may be.

A short while ago I shared some decorating ideas for using purple zebra print bedding to give the modern teenage girl's bedroom a retro look with deco possibilities. The bedding set that was used in that example consisted of a comforter, shams and curtains with zebra stripes in black and purple with a coordinating leopard or cheetah print on the sheets bedskirt and pillow cases.

At the time that I wrote that article, I was tickled pink with the pictures of this bedroom design. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that I was THRILLED.

Is purple zebra bedding a good choice for a teenage girl’s bedroom? How do you decorate around a zebra comforter with all that wild print and color in a way that won’t make your head spin?



These are all questions that I’m asked by moms when their daughters go crazy over a purple and black zebra print bedding set. Mothers want their tweens and teens to take part and have a say in the decisions made in decorating their rooms. But, they are not experienced enough to know how to accessorize and coordinate patterns that will allow the girls to design an attractive room based on the bedspread they choose.

The biggest decorating mistake that could be made is to buy up lots of zebra print decorations thinking that’s what is needed to go with the purple zebra bedding set. That many stripes in one small bedroom are enough to make you dizzy.

The comforter, dust ruffle and pillows in the purple zebra bedding require a solid color wall and accessories so that the decor doesn’t conflict with the striped print. For a sophisticated look, ebony wood, black lacquer and ceramics are an excellent choice.

Younger teenage girls might prefer funky over chic. If that’s the case, vinyl wall flowers in a 60s retro style might work. Refer to the pictures for decorating ideas.
