It causes me pain to think about decorating for the holidays but Christmas bedding sets with all those cute snowmen and snowflakes just makes me smile. Most years, the thought of drifting off to dreamland surrounded by that Jolly Old Elf and his cohorts is enough to get me off my duff and get busy.

But this year...not so much because last Christmas when I was watching movies in bed, I spilt hot chocolate all over my Frosty the Snowman comforter (dang it). Frosty now has a dark tan; at least parts of him do. It's sad, but since there's nothing I can do about it, I'm telling myself that I was kind tired of my old holiday bedding anyway. There's just no sense in crying over a chocolate brown Frosty?

So, now I have to make a decision on which direction I want to take my holiday bedroom decor. Do I buy a poinsettia bedding set and go with a traditional red and green color scheme, another blue and white Christmas bedding set similar to my old one or buy something funky like one of The Nightmare Before Christmas bedding set collections? I decorated one teen girls' bedroom for Christmas a year or so ago with a set of 101 Dalmations bedding. The comforter set wasn't specifically designed for the holidays, but the colors were absolutely perfect! Those of you with black and white bedding sets should take note of that fact and work with what you have!

I'm going to take a look at all of the above and I'll get back to you on what I find but meanwhile feel free to share any suggestions.

Get ready to dress your bed in Halloween bedding for the first holiday of the fall season. I’m not really sure when Trick or Treat was raised in the ranks to a national holiday, but the retail as well as the discount stores will back me up that shoppers treat it as such.

A mother whose daughter was bugging her to go shopping for a Halloween comforter set complained to me that she felt it was such a waste of money to buy seasonal bed linens that would only be used at most a month during the course of a year. While I saw her point, the same might also be said for a prom dress that is only worn once and from that point forward, never sees the light of day.

The facts are that teenage girls love to entertain their friends in their bedrooms and college girls have a habit of drifting from one dorm room to another chatting, visiting and undoubtedly comparing their neighbor’s dorm room décor to that of their own. It’s all in fun and why shouldn’t decorating the bedroom for Halloween with spooks and goblins for a few weeks be included as part of the celebration?

Unlike other styles of Christmas bedding that’s only good through the holidays,

Snowflakes are stylish in some areas no matter the season. But in southern climates your friends would think it odd to decorate your bedroom in ice crystals when the mercury in the thermometer is threatening to blow sky high. At the very most you may see beds made with snowflake duvet covers and sheet sets in the months of December and January.

COLORS

If you are among those who get to enjoy your snowflake bedding set during the Christmas season, red and green will blend your holiday bedroom decorations with those found in the rest of the home. If those colors don’t tickle your teenage girls taste in bedding, blue and white snowflakes with touches of red might get her approval.

MIX and MATCH YOUR HOLIDAY MOTIFS

If the idea of being surrounded by nothing but snowflakes leaves you feeling like you are struggling to survive a blizzard, bring in a snowman or a snow girl or two or some cheerful red birds or cardinals to warm up your Christmas color scheme. Snowflake bedding is very easy to coordinate with various holiday decorations so long as you don’t get too wild with your mixture.

Or if your teen prefers; snow girls.

DECORATING IDEAS

The comforter or quilt set will set the tone, but I don’t recommend that you leave it to shoulder the load of the holiday bedroom decor all alone. Mr. and Mrs. Frosty the Snowman may need a little assistance in bringing true Christmas spirit into your daughter’s room.


There’s no need to rush out and buy expensive decorations. A snowman glitter lamp and a bedside snowman rug to keep the chilly floor from giving her rosy toes frostbite on cold, winter mornings will do the trick.

If your teenage girls are lucky enough to have an adjoining bathroom, pinch a few collectible snowman figurines from your stash of ornaments to coordinate the bath with your snowman bedding set. Color coordination shouldn’t be a problem. After all how difficult can it be when the primary color in your snowman bedding and comforter set is snowy white?

When the nights cool I have to fight urges to make the bed with Christmas bedding. It’s so hard to wait until Thanksgiving has passed to dress up the bedrooms in holiday finery. I have never understood why decorations for this special time of the year are restricted to living rooms, dens and dining room tables.

PINK and GREEN CHRISTMAS BEDDING

Holiday bedding for teenage girls (and boys if you can bully them or catch them when they aren’t paying attention) is especially appreciated as girls in their early teens and preteen years love to hang out with their friends in their bedrooms even when the television screen in the den is bigger. Christmas comforter sets with pretty pink poinsettias will blend beautifully in a room where the color scheme of the bedroom is predominately pink. MODERN CHRISTMAS BEDDING COLORS

Pink and green nor red and green are the only holiday colors combinations in Christmas bedding sets at your disposal. Some of the most luxurious, festive fabrics with Christmas designs are deep purple and navy blue with metallic silver or gold accents.

For a contemporary look pick up a silver and midnight blue comforter set shot with silver threads and decorate the rest of the bedroom with crystal icicles, snowflakes and silver beads.

If a warmer style of Christmas decor is preferred, purple or garnet jewel tones with shiny gold metallic decorations will cast a glow over the bedroom that is so welcoming that you will want to keep it in place well into spring of the next year.
