I could hardly wait to share the reasons that shopping for medieval bedding sets got on my day planner with you! The day started out with only one mid-morning appointment for a teen girl in her senior year.

The girl's mom made it clear in her initial phone call that her daughter had eclectic tastes and hobbies. In retrospect this announcement probably should have waved a few flags but lots of parents think their teenage girls have odd taste so I just let the statement go in one ear and out the other.

I arrived right on time with a portfolio full of pictures of bedrooms that I have recently had a part in decorating. Spreading the most recent (and well received) designs on the table, it was clear from her expression that the young lady did not want a frilly, feminine bedroom. For that matter nothing she saw in the pictures seemed to suit her so I jumped in and asked her about her hobbies and if she had a particular style of decor or color scheme in mind.

This is where this bedroom decorating consultation became very interesting; I came to find out that this teen girl is interested in broadsword fighting and what she would like to see was pictures of girls' medieval bedrooms and medieval bedding sets.

You could have knocked me over with a feather! I'm all for giving a nod to a girl's personality but what exactly does a medieval bedding set look like? My mind drifted to knights (or in this case maidens) slaying dragons which given the elegant decor in the rest of the family home was not going to work. Then I remembered a bedroom that I decorated with a Ralph Lauren Galahad print medieval bedding set that had complementary patterns with a similar name that one might associate with Knights of the Round table, Guinevere plus one called Aragon and another named Red Velvet.

I had to go digging in my adult bedroom folder to find a picture of the bedding and lucky for me she went crazy for the idea. Thank God that Ralph Lauren chose that name for this gorgeous comforter set! Now, I have to find suitable decorations for the rest of the medieval bedroom that will appeal to this ferocious young girl's decorative taste!

Behold, the most alluring lime green silk dragon comforter that I have seen in quite some time and possibly ever in my decorating career. What a perfect example of how the bedding fabric sets the tone for the rest of the bedroom. In this case, the embroidered, gold dragons breathing fire and writhing their way across the top of the bedding will lead the way to an equally attractive layout for the rest of the bedroom that is striking and dramatic in an interesting color scheme.

I can imagine this oriental dragon comforter on a bed with a black lacquer headboard with the bedside tables and bedroom furniture following suit. Furnishings inlaid with mother of pearl with aged brass hardware and lamps with rice paper shades will complete the Asian inspired décor and allow the dragon comforter and bedding set to be the shining medallion or centerpiece of the bedroom’s design.

The luscious, lime green
dragon bedding
set needs no assistance provided from bright accent pieces. It would be a shame for a comforter of this kind to have to compete for dominance. The black, painted furniture that I suggested is not for the purpose of toning down the brightly colored fabrics. To the contrary, the dark colors are to lift this piece up so that it gets the attention that it so richly deserves.

Whether you prefer your
dragon bedding
sets to be of the fire breathing sort or to be more elegant and understated, there is no way to deny that comforters with pictures of dragons, oriental symbols and medieval motifs are one of the most dramatic styles of bedding on the market today.

Popular colors can range from emerald green, black and gold to a more warm color palette of Chinese red and ebony black with metallic gold accents painted on the fabric. Dragon bedding in medieval baby nursery themes might take a more pastel and fanciful approach taken out of the pages of a storybook devoted to the rescue of royal damsels in distress rather than scary flying lizards in ominous, twisting poses.

Many decorators consider dragon bedding to be Asian personified. However, I have a different opinion in that it is my belief that the two styles can be combined for a unique look or each can successfully stand separately without relying on the other for support.

It is true that many dragons appear to be oriental in origin, but there are others that appear to be more Western in origin. Teenage girls and boys who are fans of popular video games prefer their dragons to breathe colorful flames out of their flaring nostrils and want their bedding sets and dragon art posters to follow suit and reflect the colors and designs that are displayed across the wide expanse that forms the top of their dragon comforter sets or duvet covers.
