LIPS BEDDING

Would you classify lips bedding as retro? I’m on the fence as to whether a comforter set with big pink or red lips on a black background qualifies. Yet something in the graphics takes me back to the 80s and gave me the urge to experiment with using fabrics covered in them as well as decorative items in this shape for a college dorm that I am contracted to decorate for a girl who with the first glance at her outfit and her "big hair" made me think of a very young Madonna.

For this room that would actually be both a bedroom and sitting room, there was a need to tie the lips bedding set(or whatever style my college girl preferred) and the seating together in both color and design. As college girls usually don’t object to lots of color in their living area I thought that in light of the theme of the bedding that I would at the very least look for some pillows shaped like lips.

Boy howdy, did I ever hit the jackpot! Not only did I hit pay dirt in the pillow department I found the perfect sofa that would coordinate with the print of the fabric in the bedding set. I lucked up and came across a funky, red lips couch. The sofa will only sit two comfortably as it’s only about four feet wide, but the scale actually works with the small size of the dorm room better than a big sofa. And the red is a good match to the shades of red in the lips on the comforter. Granted, a lips shaped sofa is not for everybody, but for this young lady who is a throwback to rock stars from the 80s it was the best find ever.

OWL BEDDING SETS and BEDROOM IDEAS

After experimenting with some retro owl bedding sets in a bedroom that I decorated last fall, I wanted to explore a more modern design in something other than earth tones. For those that don’t recall that decorating project, the colors in that comforter set were orange, olive green and brown. The color scheme was earthy enough for a boy’s bedroom but the teenage girl that came up with the idea did not have unisex décor in mind. She was just in the mood for an owl bedroom decorated in fall colors.

Even though she told me recently that she had no plans to transition into pastels for spring just yet I just had to send her the pictures of this more feminine pastel owl bedding set to see if I could change her mind. The lime green, lavender, pink and yellow fabrics that are seen in the quilt and comforter are so light and airy that you can almost feel the breeze blowing through the gauze curtains decorating the windows.

And the trunk of the river birch to the side of the headboard ties into the theme and keeps the owl bed set from being too girly while adding a decorative layer of texture that just knocks me out! The only thing lacking would be branches where toy owls matching the baby owls in the bedding set could perch on the tree.

The owl pillows and tree appliques patterns on the quilt do a super job of blending both color and design in the space that has a country cottage flavor without the use of floral fabrics which should please girls from the age of tween or preteen through the early teenage years.

Money is tight but your teenage girl's bedroom decor has become outdated; you need to know how to decorate a bedroom on a budget. Teenage girls’ tastes change almost as often as they change their outfits. Frugal decorating tips are needed for decorators in a financial pinch to easily accommodate the rapidly evolving trends.

THE WALL

When it comes to decorating a bedroom on a budget; paint is your friend. Painting the walls puts a whole new complexion on an area for a very cheap price. If your walls are already painted in a color that you can work with but there are a few damaged spots cover them with posters or some colorful wall decals specially designed for use in kids rooms.

FRUGAL FURNITURE

Refurbishing bedroom furniture to reflect the styles of the day is one of the best, inexpensive bedroom ideas we can offer. Paint that pencil post bed neon orange or electric blue and watch the way that your daughter’s eyes light up! What was shabby a minute ago can be made totally chic with some bright paint and imagination.

CHEAP BEDDING

Tween and Teenage girls’ bedroom sets can be flashy and fun without the expensive price tag. The key is to time your bedroom makeover for when you are most likely to have an excellent selection of complete bed ensembles offered at deep discounts. Sale shopping for bedding and floor covering will take a big bite out of the cost of your bedroom makeover.

There’s no definitive way to tell a decorator how to decorate a bedroom on a budget without knowing what style of décor they are working toward. The tips I shared in this article are very basic but should give you a good idea where to start cutting corners while still giving your teenage girls a bedroom they can be proud of.

PINK AND BLACK DECORATING

Pink and black decorating is going to be a blast this spring! Sure, we’ve had the pink and black comforters and comforter sets around for a few years. But just when you think we have seen all that there is to this winning color combination the manufacturers tickle us well, pink, and show us that they still have a few tricks up their collective sleeves.

It’s obvious that they have reached back into days gone by to get the job done. But there’s nothing wrong with reviving old school glamour, sophistication or for that matter a little old fashioned collegiate decor and performing a little pink and black decorating using argyle print fabrics.

Pink and black wall message board

If you think that patterns taken from old fashioned knee socks that golfers use to wear pulled up to the bottom of their knickers that we have only seen in black and white films from your great-grandmother’s era can’t be inspirational; think again my dear. An attractive pattern is what it is. And what it is when you put that classic argyle graphic together with funky, modern colors in a pink and black bedroom for teenage girls is unbelievably striking.

So how do we successfully eliminate the image of old golfers and create an argyle bedroom design that is more in keeping with what teenage girls want for the bedrooms?

First off, don’t use those floor length argyle curtains. The window treatments and pink and black comforter set together in one small space is too much. Use a topper or a valance with shades, sheers, beads or blinds. Too much argyle or plaid will blow your pink and black decorating plans for your bedroom sky high.

Think chic, black and art deco or retro without going vintage in accessorizing this room. The print on your bedding set and curtains is enough. A retro black lamp on the bedside table and a pink message board decorated with black ribbons (and maybe some feathers around the frame) will repeat the X pattern of the argyle bedding without being too busy. And remember that an argyle bedroom is just one of the areas where we can put our black and pink decorating skills to work.

A Cute Way to Decorate a Bedroom - Heart Theme Bedroom for Teenage Girls

The Valentine’s Day cards are out so here’s a cute way to decorate a bedroom for teenage girls in keeping with the season. You don’t need a calendar to know Valentine’s Day is coming. All it takes is a trip down the aisle of your local discount store to see scads of red, white and hot pink hearts of every size and description on cards begging for the recipient to the be the queen or king of the sender’s heart at least for a day.

Rather than finding the displays over-stimulating, I was surprised to find myself enjoying reading the sayings inside the greeting cards and (not so surprisingly) imagining some cute girly bedroom makeovers that incorporated similar mood lifting designs. I made up my mind to find a set of bedding with decorations that will design a heart theme bedroom decor teenage girls will view as cute and fun, especially in the days surrounding the holiday devoted to red and hot pink hearts and flowers.

Right off the bat, I found this
Hello Kitty comforter set
with big red hearts that had the heart theme down pat. This dream comforter could take the place of a pink and black polka dot bedding set for a few short weeks or as the perfect tween bedding set for any time of year. Hello Kitty is a cute way to decorate a bedroom for tweens that would love a kitten or a cat bedroom decor. So, I think I will keep this sweet, little kitty cat on my list of decorating ideas for the next girly bedroom makeover I do.

TEENAGE GIRLS PINK and GREEN BEDROOMS

TEENAGE GIRLS PINK AND GREEN BEDROOMS, BEDDING and COMFORTERS

Pink and green bedrooms for teens. There fore, teenage girls green and pink bedding sets, quilts and comforters are at the top of many a birthday or Christmas wish list. Stripes, polka dots and floral fabrics with funky pom pom trim all figure into this fashionable teen bedroom decorating trend.

One decorating mistake that I see most often in pink and green bedrooms for teens is the lack of a third all important color. It is my opinion that pink and green bedrooms are not shown to full advantage without an accent color to set the combination off.

You might be wondering what color would best pull off this magical decorating feat. To answer your question, there is no definite answer. Some like to bounce some perky, white daisies in the decor that allow the other shades to dominate and others prefer an accent color like purple that will stand out in a bold manner. And then who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too with purple daisies?

Throw in an eye catching hot pink area rug and some faux fur throw pillows to layer over the pillow shams and there you will have a pink and green bedroom that is worthy of a spread in a teen girls decorating magazine.

OWL BEDDING, PILLOWS and DECOR

The latest owl bedding from
Pottery Barn Kids
brings to mind the owl decorating craze from back in the late 70s. Everybody was painting huge ceramic life size owls with those knowing yellow eyes and fluffy feathers around their eyes. The owl decor obsession fell somewhere between the psychedelic print phase and the mushroom phase. Warm fall colors of brown, pumpkin orange and yellow seemed to be everywhere from the kitchen and den to the baby's nursery.
There were hoot owl canisters on the counters and plaques on the walls, but I didnt' start pecking on the keyboard to boogie down memory lane. You can take a look in your mom's photograph album to verify the style of decorating that your home was sporting during that time.

I just found a really cute (and modern: no nauseatingly warm tones of bronze and orange, thank you very much) set of teen bedding for your little night owl teen to lounge on when she's supposed to be asleep in bed! It's called Night Owl (duh). The owl bedding fabric has a snowy white background with a nautical blue and red pattern of sweet little owls. It's got the comforter, the sheets, pillowcases, an owl shaped rug and even some matching red, white and blue tab top owl theme curtains!

The comforter print has a periwinkle blue background if the pictures on my monitor are accurate. I would say the best place for getting accessories for this particular bedroom would be the ceramic shop. One of the decorating ideas that popped in my head was a shelf display of a collection of big and small white glazed ceramic owls. If you know a ceramics artist, maybe she would make some bright red or nautical blue owls to use as accent pieces! Take a look and see if you can offer us some decorating tips for a teen girl's bedroom using this funky retro teen bedding collection!
