SHEER ZEBRA CURTAINS

Hot Pink Zebra Print Comforter Set Girls Funky Hot Pink, Lime Green and Black Bedroom Decor

GO HERE TO SEE MORE!

What do you guys think about these sheer zebra curtains? I love the hot pink zebra bedding set and the funky bookcase headboard of the bed...but those curtain panels just don't fit with the decor in the rest of the room.

This is perhaps a perfect example of too much zebra print in a teen girl's bedroom. Maybe if they lost the scarf drape over the curtain rod and did something in white faux fur or made some cool tie backs rather than have them just hanging there like that then that would tie things together? I'm really not sure that would do the trick. Replacing the sheer zebra curtains with beaded curtains was mentioned and I kind of like that idea with this teen girls bedding set. What would you do? Would you keep the scarf or lose it and add accessories to bring the zebra print curtain panels more into line with the comforter set?

IDEAS for INTERESTING WINDOW TREATMENTS for TEENAGE GIRLS BEDROOMS

Ideas for interesting window treatments for teenage girls bedrooms

Professional decorators or moms who are taking the DIY approach have to be ready with ideas for interesting window treatments when decorating a teenage girl’s bedroom. What girls want is for the sun to be blocked so they can get their beauty sleep early in the day and privacy from prying eyes during the evening hours. And they want something unique and eye catching rather than the same blinds and valances they have had since they were little kids.

In my experience, tweens and preteens right on up to girls on their way out of the house and into their college dorm rooms will turn up their cute little noses at most traditional pinch pleated curtains and reject them as being to stodgy and ordinary. The key to decorating the bedroom windows in a style that gets the approval of the little lady of the house is to have your design board loaded with unique ideas for interesting window treatments before she cops the attitude that you have no sense of what’s stylish and fashionable.

FABRIC

Include some fabric samples along with your ideas for interesting window treatments
. An exact fabric match to her bedding might strike her as too "matchy matchy" and boring. Match the color, but get inventive with the material. Faux fur, satin or sparkling beaded curtains will have a better chance at getting a thumb’s up than the curtain panels that came in her bed in a bag set.

STYLE

If privacy is an issue, opaque curtain panels will be more acceptable than blinds so long as you play your cards right. Jazz up floor length panels with unusual tie backs and curtain rods. If blinds are already in place and there’s a need to keep them; camouflage them with layers of valances, curtain panels that have been decorated with beads or trim.

PERSONALIZING THE WINDOW TREATMENTS

Once you have made decisions regarding color, fabric and style the fun will really begin. Personalize your ideas for unique and interesting window treatments for your teenage girl’s bedroom with beading, themed decorations or feather trim. I’ve seen more than one pair of curtains successfully recycled with a few yards of ribbon and marabou feathers and the results were fabulous.

Teens may not have developed a taste for luxury this early in their lives, but they do have a sense of style and a need for function in their window treatments. As soon as the basic layout of the bedroom has been decided it’s a good idea to be prepared for that stage of the decorating project.

BEADED CURTAINS for DOORWAYS and WINDOWS

Beaded curtains for doorways and windows might not be the best choice in window treatments if you want privacy and teenage girls are notorious for wanting the highest levels of privacy in their bedrooms. But beaded doorway curtains are hard to beat for drama and the illusion of mystery.

How many times have you watched a movie where a seance was about to be performed only to have the psychic’s entrance announced with the sound of clicking made by pushing beaded curtains
aside? Apart from being associated with psychics ready to make sense of the contents of a crystal ball, remember the psychedelic days of the 60s and early 70s? What hippie worth his granny glasses would have anything other than a beaded curtain with love beads across the doorway into his or her den decorated with the emblems of peace signs, free love and flower power?

Today’s beaded curtains for doorways are not necessarily to beaded curtain panels made of handmade beads shipped out from a commune. There are plastic, acrylic and glass as well as wooden beaded curtains and window treatments in bright colors like pink and purple or black and pink that coordinate beautifully with modern bedding sets in teenage girls’ bedrooms

You can pick up imported, cheap beaded curtains or choose your panels with luxury in mind made of crystals glass or elaborately carved wooden beads. To shed some light on an otherwise dimly lit room, shimmering mirrors can be strung and used as beaded style curtains that will reflect the sunlight in wonderful prismatic patterns making the space seem cheerful and alive with light.

The way to address the privacy issues that we mentioned earlier in regards to beaded bedroom curtains or doorway curtains is to layer them over something solid. Hang fabric curtain panels, window shades or blinds inside the window frame and install your beaded curtain panels on a rod mounted on the wall over the window frame. During the day you can let the sun stream in through the beads and have all the privacy you could ever want at night.

The same process can be used for the bedroom door. Hang your beads on the side of the doorframe opposite the direction that the door opens. Close the wooden door to keep things private inside the bedroom or leave the door leaving the beaded curtains as the only barrier between the bedroom and rest of the home.

If neither of these ideas for using beaded curtains works for you, perhaps the answer is a beaded wall curtain. In a tropical setting, bamboo beaded curtains, capiz shells or selections that display pictures of dolphins, the ocean or other designs can take the place of framed artwork on the bedroom walls.

For the room where semi-privacy is needed during certain times of the day, the decorative benefits of beaded curtains are hard to beat.

PURPLE BEADED CURTAINS and BOHEMIAN BEDDING and DECOR

I've come to the realization that the right accessories, which in this case are exotic, beaded curtain panels, can transform most any comforter set or an inexpensive bed in a bag into a blissful bohemian dream. There's no need for luxurious silk designer fabrics so long as the jewel tone color scheme is in place. Mix and match the weave as well as the color of decorative materials through the use of over stuffed throw pillows, shams and floor coverings. If you have no objection to your teen girl's boudoir taking on the look of a harem; big comfortable floor pillows and upholstered hassocks would look pretty cool.

Perhaps the key to this style of decor is in the lighting reflected through the beadwork used as window treatments or even to take the place of a closet or bedroom entry door in a pinch. Yards and yards of polyester fabrics to gather and drape for effect cost less than one single yard of raw silk. For a bedroom or college dorm room where chocolate milk or soft drinks and chips will be consumed by giggling teenage girls, the polyester material that can be machine washed is a much more intelligent choice than natural fabrics that will have to be taken to the dry cleaner to remove any stains.

Anchor your faux jewels with earthtones in clever combinations like purple and brown or a rich and luxurious bohemian style purple and green. Hang some lanterns on the walls to resemble something that might be found in a Bedouin chieftain's tent in the desert and your cheap and easy teenage girl's bedroom makeover can be declared a stylish success.
