A while back we fell in love with a vendor called Jardins En Fleurs. We probably blogged about it once. They make beautiful, beautiful Chinoiserie paintings and accessories. The problem was, it was so expensive it was impossible to sell. The company closed down shortly after--a victim of the 2008-09 economy, evidently.
Anyway, we get this email the other day from Belle Chasse home and it has a very similiar look and feel. Alas, we found out it was found by the same founder of Jardins en Fleur. He has great taste, we must say.
The line is more affordable now. If you are looking for pretty Chinoiserie prints, it's a nice choice.

LAVENDER ZEBRA BEDDING
GO HERE TO SEE MORE
The purple zebra print sets are no longer to be found so will lavender zebra bedding work? From the number of comments that I've been getting from teen girls looking for the set of black and purple zebra bedding set that I posted awhile back (Zebra Bedding with a Twist) it would seem that lots of my visitors waited too long and may have lost out.
I actually located a few sets that drifted through auctions early last month but they are now long gone. Yeah, that's pretty bad news if you had your heart set on it but the good news is that there is a set of deep lavender zebra bedding that is very similar and most importantly available at the time of this post.
Don't blame Tween and Teenage Girl Bedding and Bedroom Decorating Ideas if you mess around and let this one get away from you!

Variations On A Theme – A Welcome Back
Initially, this blog was for my internship with an online magazine (and also this one). Now that the internship has ended, I have allowed this area of web space to lay unused and decaying. I felt bad about that and felt jealous of my friends in the world who have moved on from their junior high and high school LiveJournals, for which I still hold a dear place in my heart, and have brought their

RED LEOPARD BEDDING

Tell me is the wild, red leopard bedding set in this picture a pick or a pan? I thought I had had enough with decorating with red early last month. But here I am again, going all out on a color just because of a particular holiday that's just around the corner.
Actually, I believe that I'm more into red bedroom decor at the moment than I was during Christmas and I plan to prove that this warm color has lots to offer no matter how badly your parents don't want you to use too much of it in your room! Stick around and keep an eye on Tween and Teen Girls Bedding and Bedroom Decorating Ideas because I might actually hit on a comforter set that will convince mom and dad that there are worse things than buying their teen girl a set of red leopard bedding.

RIP J.D. Salinger
J.D Salinger on the cover of Time Magazine, September 15, 1961
I feel like I've been punched in the stomach. He was an old man, but his passing still hurts. His reclusiveness, depriving the world of any words or images, has made it seem as if he has never aged. And haven't we all been hoping that he'd eventually break his silence? Publish something again? Anything! It's over now.
This bit from The Catcher in the Rye jumps out at me now that he has passed:
"Boy, when you're dead, they really fix you up. I hope to hell when I do die somebody has sense enough to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetery. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody."

The Lovely Bones - My Review
For my mom’s birthday my sisters and I wanted to take her out to the movies. I was thinking we’d see something light and fluffy like Leap Year when my 14 year old niece said, "Can I come too? I want to see The Lovely Bones." So it was decided. I was a little surprised that my niece wanted to see this movie. What was the attraction? When I asked her, she gave that very teenage answer: a shrug of the shoulders. I guessed it was because of Saoirse Ronan. There aren’t a lot of films out there with a female protagonist who is the same age as my niece. Plus, Kylie’s been getting really into supernatural and horror films lately and the recent TV ads played up that angle of this film. Then I saw this article in Variety. This new marketing angle was intentional and perfectly suited to snag my niece’s attention!
My sisters, mom and I were cool with the choice because we had all read the book by Alice Sebold all those years ago when it was riding high on the bestsellers lists. In fact, I was thrilled when I first heard that Peter Jackson and his partners were adapting it. Then I felt a little deflated when early reviews were dogging the film. But it’s rare that reviews will stop me from seeing something, especially when I’ve been looking forward to it. I’m more of a word of mouth girl, and some friends of mine, whose opinions I trust, gave it a very good recommendation.
I liked the film. It’s not a perfect, but it’s not terrible either. It has been so many years since I read the book that I can’t remember it well enough to know how much the film deviates, which seems to be a sticking point with many reviewers. I found the film to be haunting, beautiful, emotionally truthful, and at times very, very scary. The performances by the ensemble cast were all well done. Saoirse Ronan gives another performance that is beyond her years and Stanley Tucci proves yet again what a dynamic actor he is. Having this eerie serial killer role in the same year as his lovable husband in Julie & Julia is incredible. Even Mark Whalberg was believable and touching as the dad unable to move on after his daughter’s death.
Peter Jackson portrayed the heartbreak surrounding the murder of a teenage girl, the repercussions felt by her family and friends, the urgency in finding her killer (who incidentally is right under their noses), and the girl’s existence in the “in between” without letting the story becoming maudlin or sensationalized. I know he is getting flak for not implicitly stating or showing that Susie Salmon is raped as well as murdered (as in the book), but I have no problem with this "watered" down version. The story is horrifying enough, without forcing us to watch that onscreen.
After the film was over I asked my niece what she thought. Her reply? "It was weird."
HA!

Sky
I was going through my twitpics and realize I take a lot of photos of the sky with my iPhone. I love the sky. Especially the desert sky of my home - especially at sunset or when there are interesting clouds. Here is a collection of sky photos I have taken. Only one of these was not taken in my hometown of Las Vegas. Can you guess which one?
Rosy Nolan on "Seven Questions for Songwriters"
SEVEN QUESTIONS FOR SONGWRITERS
1. What makes you write?
What makes me write has changed recently. What used to make me write, 99.99% of the time, was feeling down on love. Recently, I've been writing songs to console my former love-sick self, so I guess the topic is basically the same.
2. Who is the greatest unknown influence on your music?
I can't separate an influence on my life from an influence on my music so I would have to say, my mama.
3. What is your most closeted, secret, guilty and humiliating musical pleasure?
I really enjoy relaxing to Native American flute music.
4. What established artist made you want to write songs, and why?
Lucinda Williams, because she speaks her truth so unapologetically and I wanna do that too.
5. Advice for just-starting songwriters on establishing yourself as a woman in the industry?
Write, write, write, write, write and what ever you do... don't date your guitar player.
6. Why country?
It's organic and raw, warm and inviting, and feels like coming home.
7. Favorite backwoods expression?
"Git 'er done!"
What is going on?
I try to stay away from talking about coaching rumors and things like that, but since we have a lot of future coaches in our department, I feel like this is a topic worth discussing and learning from. The question is, what in the world is going on with Urban Meyer? On December 26, he announced that he is retiring from coaching due to "health reasons." We later learned that he had lost 20 pounds during the season, and had to be taken to the hospital after the SEC championship game due to chest pains. Most people know that college football coaches work very long hours, have poor diets, and do not get much sleep. The fact that he was stepping away due to his health and wanting to be there for his family seemed noble. But, the next day, he apparently changed his mind, deciding only to take an undefined "leave of absence" in order to take care of his health. Then, news came out this weekend that he apparently is not taking any time off. He said he tried to take a day and a half off, but that didn't work. So, the question becomes, does he really have health issues, more specifically, cardiac issues, that need addressing, or was he just tired at the end of the season and made a rash decision? I just don't understand how he can go from retiring one day because he is afraid of the consequences coaching has had and will have on his health, to now not taking any time off at all. I can only come to two conclusions based on these sequences of events. 1) His health is really not a problem, and he just overreacted initially, or 2) His ego is so big that he can't step away from coaching in order to take care of himself or his family. I just think that he owes some sort of explanation for all of this. Hopefully future coaches can learn from this situation, that they need to take care of themselves, and be honest with people, because the facts around Urban Meyer do not add up.

Obituary in the New York Times
I've always enjoyed Jean Simmons. I first remember her from TV. She starred in those great mini-series The Thorn Birds and North and South. But as I discovered older films, I discovered her too in things like Young Bess and Guys and Dolls and Olivier's Hamlet. In these later years, I really loved her in How to Make an American Quilt.
Here she is in a scene from Until They Sail, a little known WWII film from 1957. This is the scene where she first meets my darling Paul Newman, an American soldier stationed for a short time in her New Zealand port town.
